Sandstone detail

The crest on the outside wall of the Governors residence. Tried to get the crest but had no luck, any one know the translation my latin skills are poor. Perhaps Virtue before wine? (google translations not allowed)

  1. Not sure of the order of these words. Viget in Cinere Virtus is "It thrives in the power of the ashes." Viget Cinere in Virtus is "Ashes put in power, remain in force".

  5. It does indeed translate to "Virtue flourishes after death" and is the family motto for the Davidson family, mostly those originating from the Findhorn, Moray area of Scotland.

    1. But I am interested exactly where this is in Sydney. You say the "Governors residence" and I wonder where and what that is?
