As I walked back along the beach these boys were heading off across Pittwater, there are some isolated communities there; Coasters Retreat, Mackerel Beach and Lovett's Bay. Which 2 Aussie legends used to live at Lovett's?
That's right Jo, Dorothea Mackellar who wrote 'Core of my heart' I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains Of ragged mountain ranges Of droughts and flooding rains. I love her far horizons I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror -- The wide brown land for me!
Also the actor, the late Chios Rafferty. And the author Di Morrisey, whose father and sister drowned in Pittwater when she was a girl.
What a wonderful shot of a such a lovely place! I'd love to be in that boat right now!! Hope you have a great week!

Oh...I have no idea. But I sure like the names of the places. Didn't you want to catch a ride? I think I would have tried:)
ReplyDeleteNice capture.
Dorothea Mackellar, is one. Great shots of Barrenjoey...

That should read Chips Rafferty, not Chios!
ReplyDeleteSome things I did not know.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of Mackerel Beach (because I love smoked mackerel) :)
ReplyDeleteHave you read Salvation Creek by Susan Duncan, which is set around the Pittwater? It gives you an insight to life on the Pittwater.
ReplyDeleteReminded me of Susan Duncan's Salvation Creek too. She lives in Dorethea Mackeller's old home.
ReplyDeleteOo ... I think I might like that book. All I have read about Pittwater is really "the Secret River' which was excellent. I will hunt this book out.
ReplyDeleteI love that photo ... such a peaceful shot of a life lived at their own pace.
Thanks Jo, Joan and Julie for the literary information. Holiday reading?
