Some of the plants around the lighthouse, anyone know what this is?
This is the lonely grave next to the lighthouse. It is the grave of the first keeper George Mulhall, struck by lightning when he went outside to get some firewood. His son, the next keeper was also struck in later years but not fatally.
What a great place to be buried. I took a very similar walk up to the lighthouse a few years ago. Just astounding views and beauty.
ReplyDeleteNo idea of the name of that plant ... looks like a variety of banksia ... Joan will know.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like some sort of Banksia. Top shot.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking grevillea. Nice series - I'm adding this to my list of walks to do this summer.
ReplyDeleteI am fairly sure it is an Isopogen (Drumsticks). As it happens I have posted one on BMJ today. I think yours might be the narrow leafed version whereas mine is the broadleafed version.
ReplyDeleteMind you I am just a beginner at flower identification.
Thanks for the plant id, good choice Joan!
