After emerging from the tunnel, crossing Hyde Park is my vote for Sydney's most beautiful building. Clad in pink granite its interior is white granite.
Fund raising for it began on the first anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli in 1916 it was finally completed in 1934, it is the main commemorative military monument of Sydney, Australia.
Inside the dome is painted 120,000 stars, the number of NSW volunteers that served in WW1. Out of a population of 4 million, 330,000 Australians served with 60,000 dead.
Impressive! I'd give it a vote as well.

Those were the days of king and country! That whole area is a pleasure to loll in. I think HP South beats HP North hands down.

ReplyDeleteI agree it is a lovely building. Took me years to go and visit it. Somehow it gets left out in Sydney because there are so many other places to see and go to.
