A portico on the Northern side of St James Church - another of Francis Greenways creations. Convicted forger turned architect. The only convicted forger to be honoured on a banknote - proud to be Australian!
Now I am confused ... well more confused! You say northern side ... that is the long side ... but I reckon this is the E corner bordering on Queen's Square cause i can see the chairs of the coffee shop (which does Sydney's best iced coffee BTW)(. But ... if all that is a correct assumption ... what on earth happened to the statue of Queen Vic? Looks like she has been knocked from her pedestal .. poor gal!

ReplyDeleteBut Greenway did not forge banknotes ... something to do with architectural plans if I recall correctly ...
ReplyDeleteI love the Francis Greenway buildings ... simple and elegant. Good grief Julie you must have a map of the city burnt into your brain.
ReplyDeleteWe need a few more Greenways.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting shot with light and shadows.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie, but this is the North facing side, true the coffee shop is east facing.
ReplyDeleteHe was pretty good for so little training.
