Erected by the Grand Order of Oddfellows, I do not know much about them, but wiki says: "In smaller towns and villages, there were too few Fellows from the same trade to set up a local Guild, so Fellows from a number of trades banded together to form a local Guild of Fellows from an odd assortment of trades. Hence, Guilds of Odd Fellows."
Perhaps that is where the expression, "he's an odd fellow" came from?
ReplyDeleteThat's a different view. I usually see it from the other side.
ReplyDeleteMe too, tother side. Corner Park & Elizabeth erected in 1921 about the time HP was sliced open for the placing of the tunnels for the subway.
ReplyDeleteIf I don't get down to Sydney soon and see all this stuff, I am going to die!
ReplyDeleteHeehee, I like the name!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting history too. Thanks, I enjoyed this.
I have met a few odd fellows from time to time. I can't say I wanted to remember them, but these guys deserve the plaque.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. In the small town I grew up in their was an Oddfellows Lodge up the other end of the town to the Masonic Lodge. I though the fellows that belonged to both of them were rather odd.
