What bird is this?

I thought this was a baby rainbow lorrikeet but my neighbor says not.
Does anyone know?

  1. It looks like your run-of-the-mill parakeet (budgie). But usually they are indoor pets.

  2. I have no idea...but I'm green with envy on this capture and that you actually have such beautiful birds there:)

  3. It appears to be a Scaly-breasted Lorikeet, after referring to my field guide book. They have an all-green head, and orange-red under the wing. Younger birds have a brown beak.

  4. I was going to say that it looks like like an Indian Ring Neck parakeet. The females don't have a ring but I googled it and the eyes look different.

  5. Kevin, sounds good, not sure I can check under his wing!
Jim - I have no idea.

  6. Dunno. I've never seen one so green before.

  7. I agree with Kevin: Scaly Breasted Lorikeet. My field guide says that the immature Rainbow Lorikeet is just a duller version of its adult.

    Nice looking bird ...
