Central Station Portico

This is the Elizabeth Street entrance to Central Railway Station it is the largest railway station in Australia. It was built in 1906 of beautiful Sydney Sandstone.

  1. I've been to that station a squillion times and I don't think I've ever used that entrance. I love Central station.

  2. There are just soooo many entrances and I suspect this one to be the least used. Are you sure it is the biggest in Australia. The old Spencer St in Melbourne is massive. Remember, Central is only the suburban section. The country platforms are really Sydney Terminal. Splitting hairs I guess. It is a lovely, uniquely Sydney, area. Full of characters.

  3. Cool. I've been trying to get a shot of this for some time but never manage to get there when the light is right. I really like the way the shadows dance over it, in this shot.

  4. I agree with Jim, I always find it very dingy and gloomy, you've made it look extremely grand.

  6. Thanks, I agree it usually looks ordinary, the mid- morning sunshine was just right.
Julie, unsure of the criteria for largest but I got this from Wiki ..."Central Railway Station (also known as Sydney Terminal) is the largest railway station in Australia."

  8. I have been in and out of this entrance quite a number of times, but never really 'looked' at it. Nicely observed and captured.
