Trams from Spain
In the streets of Vélez-Málaga in Spain, protests have broken out this week as trams that in happier economic times ran through the Andalusian town begin their long journey to Sydney.
They have been leased by the NSW government, to run on the extension of Sydney's light rail line from Lilyfield to Dulwich Hill.
In Spain, the trams have not been in service for a year. They were purchased for a tram line that started in 2006 but that, in 2012, was suspended when the town's politicians said they could no longer afford the running costs.
According to Spanish media reports, the first tram to be sent to Sydney was this week being transported from the city of Vélez-Málaga to Australia.
Thank you Spain.
