Legacy Week Sydney

Next week is legacy week. A charity associated with the defence force. Legacy is a charity providing services to Australian families suffering financially and socially after the incapacitation or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their defence force service. They currently care for around 90,000 widows and 1,900 children and disabled dependants throughout Australia. Started in 1923.

Trams from Spain

2 of Sydney's trams down at Haymarket. In the streets of Vélez-Málaga in Spain, protests have broken out this week as trams that in happier economic times ran through the Andalusian town begin their long journey to Sydney. They have been leased by the NSW government, to run on the extension of Sydney's light rail line from Lilyfield to Dulwich Hill. In Spain, the trams have not been in service for a year. They were purchased for a tram line that started in 2006 but that, in 2012, was suspended when the town's politicians said they could no longer afford the running costs. According to Spanish media reports, the first tram to be sent to Sydney was this week being transported from the city of Vélez-Málaga to Australia. Thank you Spain.

Weather warning

Severe Sydney weather warning for heavy rain, damaging winds says today's paper- they were right. Sydneysiders have been warned to brace themselves for a day of wild weather, with heavy rain forecast to strike the metropolitan area during the morning peak followed by an afternoon of damaging winds. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rain and damaging winds for the Metropolitan, Hunter, Illawarra and South Coast forecast districts on Monday. Basically its raining cats and dogs!

Pezoporus occidentalis

The Night Parrot or Pezoporus occidentalis has been called the “world’s most mysterious bird”. First discovered in 1845, it was rarely seen alive for most of the next hundred and seventy years, but it has been rediscovered in 2013 by Queensland naturalist John Young. Its location is a closely guarded secret to keep flocks of 'twitchers' away. This is an entrance to the Australian Museum old school building on William St.

Bondi versus Manly

There are two really famous beaches in Sydney. Bondi is in The Eastern Suburbs and Manly on the Northern Beaches. A newspaper today had a article comparing them as the big City to Surf race is on this Sunday.
