Extension to Australian Museum

Time for a lunchtime walk - first stop down along William Street is the new extension to the old sandstone Australian Museum.

Early Morning South End Avalon

This is where the old pool used to be. A bit dangerous here, usually has a rip which takes you out.
Watery Wednesday

North End Avalon

The North End is a bit more sheltered. Lots of longboards and the latest craze is the standup paddlers, and you can also see the surf boat waiting for a wave. This is the area where a shark attack happened 2 years ago - about this time of year when the water is still warm. I know the family, the father and son were out for an early morning surf when the teenage son was grabbed by a white pointer shark, the shark let go and the father paddled over and helped his son in. The father Charles Lindop has just been awarded a bravery medal.

Recently the City of Sydney Council had some grasses growing in Martin Place, it got quite high as you can see.

Action at the Castle

The result of an altercation, 4pm on Bathurst Street, outside the Edinburgh Castle pub. Looks like the girl is showing a photo or video of events saved on her phone.

On the beach - Packing it in

The golden sands on Sunday afternoon was a perfect day for the beach, summer seems to be hanging on. The long shadow is from one of a group of Norfolk Island pines - not sure I like them, but they provide good afternoon shade.

The swill

I have heard about the 6 o'clock swill, a trading hour restriction that was meant to send men home for their tea. Celebrated here in this pub poster in Bondi Junction. Did it work?

Sandstone cave near me, there is visible coal here - maybe we should start digging?

Cabbage Tree Palm after fire

There was some backburning done in my local park, try to reduce the fire load. The trees seem to thrive afterwards.

This is the old Treasury Building that now houses the Intercontinental Hotel. This is where all the gold was stored.

Sunrise Newport

Another early morning in Australian Eastern Daylight Time - looking forward to the end of daylight saving, mmm... not sure I am looking forward to winter.

Goodbye Boat

Sold my 'tinnie' this week (the tall one on the left) no more motoring around Pittwater. The storage rack is in a beautiful position at Taylor's Point Baths where I only had to drag the boat a few metres into the water.

What bird is this?

I thought this was a baby rainbow lorrikeet but my neighbor says not.

Early morning in my office building, the screens give the highrise a different effect.

The weather is turning - all of a sudden it seems autumnal- that different light. Here is a sign confirming it.

End of the day and the signs are being taken down, it is better swimming when these guys are around.

The early light on Thursday morning came directly into Martin Place, the war memorial here is the focal point for many services throughout the year.

Saw some colour in my rear vision mirror on Monday on my way to work and just had to pull over, took a while to get back into the traffic.
