Finger Wharf Wooloomooloo

Now housing luxury apartments and expensive restaurants this is the site of many historic wartime farewells and immigrant arrivals. The structure is the largest timbered-piled building in the world and was built in 1915. Renovated in 2000 by Multiplex.

Stairway to heaven

Stairs next to the NSW Art Gallery, coming up from the 'loo. This eastern set seems redundant as they lead to a dead end.

Art Gallery of NSW

This bronze sculpture is outside the Art Gallery it is by the English sculptor, Henry Moore (1898-1986). The original plaster was made in 1975.

Australian Navy HMAS Parramatta

Down by Wooloomooloo Docks is HMAS Parramatta, a frigate. Tied up at the dock at Garden Island is this Frigate.
Parramatta is the oldest ship name in the Australian Navy and is the fourth RAN ship to bear the name. Parramatta (I) was the first ship commissioned into the Commonwealth Naval Forces (later to be named the Royal Australian Navy) on 10 September 1910. Parramatta (II) served in World War II and was sunk by a German submarine in the Mediterranean on 27 November 1941 with the loss of 138 lives. Parramatta (III) was a River Class Destroyer Escort that served between 1961 and 1991.

St Vincent's College

This exclusive ladies college is located in the heart of Kings Cross.

Autumn Colours

This apartment block up the Cross has some Plane Trees in Autumn colours. This is about as good as you get in Sydney.

Cremorne Church

You know when you take a photo and you can't remember where you took it? This is one of those, I think it was Cremorne or Neutral Bay on the North Shore of Sydney.

Beer Sign

The sign says it all, this traditional pub is on William Street Darlinghurst.

Old Church on William Street

Next to the Australian Museum on William Street is this old building.
The heritage register says:
The former William Street National School is historically significant as one of only two surviving examples in central Sydney of the forty-four national schools established between 1848 and 1851. The school served as a model for other schools in New South Wales, and is physical evidence of the change from church schools to state controlled schools.

The Collaroy

Sydney Ferries vessel Collaroy, one of the largest ferries in the fleet, capacity 1200 persons. Here it is steaming to manly with the Horizon Building in the background.

Royal Yacht Squadron

The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron is a yacht club located in Kirribilli. The squadron was originally founded in 1862. It has occupied its grounds in East Kirribilli, near Kirribilli House since 1902.

Best pool in Sydney

Bilgola Beach pool would be up there, it is long enough for laps, faces due North, is a sun trap, has a beautiful oulook and is rarely crowded. It has a shallow section for kids and walking, high enough to avoid big swells.

YWCA 1924

Down along Macquarie St are a selection of old sandstone ornament, looks like a graveyard. Here is the crest of the old YWCA building. I can't seem to find where is was located.

A happy Friday lunchtime crowd down outside Customs House. Arent Friday crowds always happy?

Dernacourt Diorama

A diorama inside the War Memorial in Canberra, showing the diggers amongst a cemetery on the Somme in WW1. These dioramas have been a feature of the memorial since it opened. They were a way to give some impression as to the lie of the land.

Inside Customs House down by Circular Quay is the City of Sydney library.
This is the list of persons who died in World War 1 who worked for the Customs Department.

University of Sydney Main Quad

The north western corner, designed by Leslie Wilkinson, finished in the 1920s.

McKell Park Darling Point

On an autumn day here is the view from this pocket sized park to the ferry wharf and Clark Island beyond. Call a water taxi for a perfect picnic spot.

Sea Stones
