I used to have them visit me also, when I lived in St Ives a few years ago now. They are a gorgeous bird, and very big.
I agree about the non-feeding. I bought my grand-daughter a book yesterday, but am now not sure whether I should give it to her, as it has ducks being fed peanuts by tourists in a park as one of its themes.
We will see them through here is much bigger numbers over the next few months ... the love the seeds on the Maples. But the bush has so much to offer at the moment the birds don't need to raid our gardens ... after a bush fire we see them in droves.
