Melbourne Cup in Sydney

Last Tuesday was the day of the Melbourne Cup, in Sydney it is a day for long lunches and celebration. It is also the day everyone seems gripped by gambling fever, the long queues at the betting agencies attest to this. For the record an outsider: Green Moon won to the bookies delight!

Best Sydney Jacaranda

This is not the best photo of it and it has not hit its peak here BUT in the courtyard below St Marys Cathedral is the best Jacaranda in Sydney (in my humble opinion). Cardinal George Pell has been looking after it.

El Alamein Fountain Kings Cross

This fountain in the heart of the cross had just had its first refurbishment. Designed by Bob Woodward it was completed in 1961 as a memorial to the soldiers who died at El Alamein Egypt during WWII in 1942.

Museum of Australian Currency Notes

In the Reserve Bank Building is this free museum. Recommended. The cartoon character in the window is 'Dollar Bill', used to launch the introduction of decimal currency on 14 February 1966. I still remember the jingle, can you?
