I have visited a beach in an Asian country before and shelters are not a rare facility there. There was one in about every 20m radius because they experience a high percentage of showers round the year. Hence, the shelters act as a quick getaway spot for picnickers during surprise showers.
On Manly beach is this quirky shelter.
