Australian Hero

Yesterday was ANZAC day, lots of remembering as it was 100 years since the first ANZAC day. Unusual for a nation to celebrate a defeat rather than a victory. Here is a statue of a real war hero: Edward 'Weary' Dunlop. It is at Benalla a great little town on the way from Sydney to Melbourne. It was his boyhood home. 'Lieutenant-Colonel E.E. ‘Weary’ Dunlop is an iconic figure in Australian memory of the Thai–Burma railway. Although only one of 106 Australian doctors captured by the Japanese and of 44 on the railway, Dunlop came to represent the self-sacrifice, courage and compassion which doctors and Australians more generally are remembered as displaying in captivity.'

Where is Ned Kelly buried?

Stopped at Glenrowan, a small town on the road to Melbourne. Ned Kelly made his last stand here, was captured and hung on 11 November 1880 age 26. He was buried in the grounds of Old Melbourne Gaol. Famous for making his own armour and helmet. Did not help him when they shot his knees.

Outside the Piano building on Hunter street are these two stones, nice. 'Kan Yasuda - "Touchstones" Yasuda's work, titled "Touchstones" is a splendid example of the marriage of art and architecture. Artists are rarely brought in at the beginning of a project and rarely work directly with architects. But not so at Aurora Place. The developers encouraged the connection between architect and artist right from the commencement of the project.' from auroraplace.com.au

Large baby head

The things you see on the back of a truck, a large baby head sculpture. I was thinking of following it to see where it was going.
