John F Kennedy Grave

At the foot of the old Lee mansion Arlington are the graves of John Fitzgerald Kennedy 1917 – 1963 and his wife Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis 1929 – 1994. JFK grave is lit with an eternal flame and he is one of only two presidents to be buried in Arlington.

  1. It is very understated and respectful, isn't it. That surprises me to some extent. It also surprises me that Jackie was allowed to be buried in the same plot, after all those years.

If I recall correctly, RFK rests somewhere in that vicinity, too.

Thanks for this, Peter. I enjoy your cemetery posts from all over.

  2. Nice shots. I've seen JFK's grave but I think I was there before Jackie's death. My shots are from above on the hill so its a bit hard to tell.

  3. I don't know why, as I remember his death and know how old he was at the time, but seeing that he was born in 1917 is a bit of a shock!

  6. A pity that the sign is standing there. It looks peaceful and if you cannot feel that then you don't belong there with or without sign.

  7. Thank you for featuring one of America's best loved presidents on your blog. I was a freshman in college the day Kennedy was assassinated, and I remember so well listening to the radio after lunch that day in a friend's dorm room and hearing the announcement of the shooting in Dallas.

P.S. I normally do not make comments on blogs which require the new practically illegible CAPTCHA word verification, but I have made an exception this one time.
