Entrance to nowhere

In a hidden corner of Hyde Park, on Park Street, is this entrance to what used to be underground toilets.

  1. I guess they can just dig it out.

  2. I guess there was nothing else to do but leave it there - as you said going no-where!

  3. Interesting question. Nice ironwork so well worth preserving whatever it's prior purpose. I saw a doco that said their were underground bunkers of various sorts in that area during the war.

  4. There's another one of those down in Macquarie Place. They should have kept them as toilets.

  5. The city ones have been filled with sand to preserve them and may be used again someday. There's also another one at Taylor Square.
