Lights out Sydney

Earth hour last Saturday involved turning off the lights from 8.30 to 9.30 pm. In the spirit of things the Opera House was lit green.

Country Railway Station

This is Georges Plain Station, located about 30 minutes west of Bathurst and 251.900 km from Sydney. All rail kilometres are measured from the stop board at Central Station in Sydney. This station was opened on 1 Nov 1876. Now used as a residence.

About 4 hours drive west of Sydney the railway line around Bathurst winds through farmland. Don't worry the section was protected under a TOA.

Granville Train Disaster

Australia's worst rail disaster occurred here in 1977. It is commemorated as the Day of the Roses. "The Granville rail disaster occurred on 18 January 1977 at Granville, a suburb in western Sydney, Australia, when a crowded commuter train derailed, running into the supports of a road bridge that collapsed onto two of the train's passenger carriages. Australia Square at lunchtime

Australia Square always makes me think of the sixties, when this building was completed (1967) it was the tallest building in Sydney at the time. Designed by Harry Seidler, it is the most beautiful modern building in Australia. Not too many cafe chairs here but ... I can see at least one.
